Our Team

  • Michael Phillips

    Principal Acoustic Consultant

Michael is an acoustic engineer suitably qualified as a Member of the Australian Acoustical Society. With experience across projects of all sizes and disciplines specialising in architectural acoustics, environmental acoustics, product research, development and design, acoustical product testing and corporate training, Michael is a leading acoustical product expert having conducted research in this area and aiding several prominent Australian manufacturers to improve their acoustical systems, product knowledge and technical data sheets.

Michael is an experienced architectural acoustics lecturer and continues to work as a guest lecturer for bachelor level students.

A Master’s Degree in Architectural Science (Audio & Acoustics) from the University of Sydney, an Associate’s Degree in Audio Engineering from JMC Academy, ensures Michael has the knowledge and expertise to solve complex acoustical problems.

Michael's Master's graduate thesis involved researching, developing and testing scattering surfaces for room acoustic treatments.

With continued exposure to both the professional and academic worlds, Michael is uniquely positioned to apply proven acoustical engineering methods as well as the latest in theoretical acoustic modelling technologies.

  • Luke Curtis

    Project Engineer

Luke Curtis is an Acoustic Consultant in the Michael Phillips Acoustics Sydney office specialising in building acoustics and environmental noise assessment. Graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Luke relocated to Sydney to pursue his passion in acoustics.

With experience in projects at all stages from conceptual design through to commissioning and hand over he has developed a detailed approach to acoustic solutions.

Luke's areas of expertise include road and rail infrastructure assessments, commercial and residential developments, noise modelling and controls development for environmental and mechanical management systems, as well as bespoke designs and solutions for performance venues.

  • Beau Ciccarello

    Project Engineer

Beau's experience in Building Acoustics, Environmental Acoustics, and Scientific Research, including Acoustic Laboratory Qualification, make him an important asset to the experienced Michael Phillips Acoustics team.

With a special interest in critical listening spaces, Beau's expertise also covers site investigation, aircraft noise intrusion, sound transmission flanking paths and acoustics across all projects stages and development applications.

Beau has worked on a variety of significant Commercial Developments throughout Australia, Defence Facilities, Noise Source Characterisation, and Residential Developments.

His Master’s graduate thesis involved the design and evaluation of an acoustic chair prototype that harnessed geometric reflections to reinforce direct sound rays and increase speech relevant frequencies transmissible to and from the chair’s occupant. He has also achieved publications in Acoustics and Human Aspects of Cyber Security

Beau has a high attention to detail, is tremendously thorough and is a reliable and highly organised member of the Michael Phillips Acoustics team.
